Night Ministry
Jesus People Loving People
Dundee

Hello!

We're the Night Ministry. Here's a bit of information about us:

The Night Ministry is an independent volunteer based Christian organisation particularly active supporting Dundee's most marginalised people, some of whose lives have been blighted by homelessness, prostitution, mental health issues or alcohol and drug abuse. In this work we aim to show Christian compassion and love, helping people to find hope and giving them back their dignity. The help given is normally conducted alongside various caring professions, and with their input.   We have been operating a street outreach since 2013 meeting the needs of the poor and broken during the cold weather months,

Street outreach is at the heart of our mission, our team is made up of bible beleaving, church-going Christians who aim to demonstrate the Life-Giving Love of Jesus to all regardless of age, social standing, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or disability.

Our rough sleeper team respond to welfare concern calls recieved from members of the public, police and others. We also monitor locations across the city where rough sleepers are known to frequent, offering those we find practical support like sleeping bags, hats, gloves, clothing, food, hot drinks and emotional support by listening and comforting our street friends. We signpost individuals to other support such as local authorities services, soup kitchens, NHS and appropriate charities or agencies.

Proverbs 3:27 KJV

"Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, When it is in the power of thine hand to do it"

Homelessness makes people feel hopeless. Our mission is to save and improve lives by maintaining human dignity through practical help improving the conditions of life for people at whatever level they are prepared to accept.

Sharing Jesus with people is our key aim, but it is by no means a precondition to supporting people.  We trust that people will see something of God’s love through our efforts to help them. The intention is to demonstrate God’s love – in effect “be Jesus” to those we meet, as Jesus himself said: "Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” Matthew 25:40 KJV.

There are four different areas of the Night Ministry assisting the homeless and rough sleepers across Dundee and its environs:

  1.  Pastoral care such as listening, befriending,  comforting, supporting, and encouraging.
  2.  Providing or assisting in the provision of humanitarian support, such as food, clothing, sleeping bags, etc.
  3.  Signposting individuals to other appropriate charities or agencies.
  4.  Operate a street outreach in order to locate and support rough sleepers.
